Book Review: Hopeless

Sometimes discovering the truth can leave you more hopeless than believing the lies…That’s what seventeen-year-old Sky realizes after she meets Dean Holder. A guy with a reputation that rivals her own and an uncanny ability to invoke feelings in her she’s never had before. He terrifies her and captivates her all in the span of just one encounter, and something about the way he makes her feel sparks buried memories from a past that she wishes could just stay buried.Sky struggles to keep him at a distance knowing he’s nothing but trouble, but Holder insists on learning everything about her. After finally caving to his unwavering pursuit, Sky soon finds that Holder isn’t at all who he’s been claiming to be. When the secrets he’s been keeping are finally revealed, every single facet of Sky’s life will change forever.

Before I write this review I just want to point out that it takes a lot to make me cry over books and movies. I cried a little when I read The Book Thief and The Fault in Our Stars and I cried after watching The Time of The Doctor this Christmas. One of my friends from school recommended this book to me so I decided to give it a try. I read the entire book in one afternoon. When I finished it I sat on my bed and cried. For hours. I'm not kidding.

Hopeless Is the story of Sky, a teenager with a mysterious past that she doesn't even remember. Sky is one of those characters that seems normal at first. She goes to school, lives at home, and doesn't have a magical power. But as soon as Sky's story unfolds, you realize how extraordinary she really is. I found myself rooting for Sky throughout the entire book which is sometimes hard to do in young adult literature. Every decision she made and every secret she uncovered just made me like her character even more. I can't comment on said secrets because it will give away the book, but Sky is one tough girl and it really shows in the way she handles things.

The other main character in this book is Holder. At first glance Holder is the stereotypical bad boy but as the story progresses Holder's character really changes. He was probably my favorite character in the book and he definitely added to the plot and to the development of Sky's character.

Hopeless is an amazing book but it definitely deals with mature themes. If those books aren't for you I wouldn't read it but If you can handle the hard stuff you should definitely check this book out. Just a warning, you will cry several times while reading.

Me while reading this book.
Me when I finished this book.

  1. I am not a big crier either when it comes to books. This book sounds good and overwhelming at the same time. I'm not sure if I want to cry that much! :)

  3. I've sooo many good things about this book!! I'll have to pick it up soon. Although, I'm a major crier so if this made you cry I'll need like a swimming pool to catch my tears.
