Book Review: Unearthly

Title: Unearthly
Author: Cynthia Hand
Original Release: January 4, 2011

In the beginning, there's a boy standing in the trees . . . .Clara Gardner has recently learned that she's part angel. Having angel blood run through her veins not only makes her smarter, stronger, and faster than humans (a word, she realizes, that no longer applies to her), but it means she has a purpose, something she was put on this earth to do. Figuring out what that is, though, isn't easy. Her visions of a raging forest fire and an alluring stranger lead her to a new school in a new town. When she meets Christian, who turns out to be the boy of her dreams (literally), everything seems to fall into place and out of place at the same time. Because there's another guy, Tucker, who appeals to Clara's less angelic side.As Clara tries to find her way in a world she no longer understands, she encounters unseen dangers and choices she never thought she'd have to make between honesty and deceit, love and duty, good and evil. When the fire from her vision finally ignites, will Clara be ready to face her destiny?Unearthly is a moving tale of love and fate, and the struggle between following the rules and following your heart.

REVIEW:

Okay, for starters teen paranormal romance is not my favorite genre to read. I've read all of them but I never
enjoy them as much as most people do. I've aways looked down on the genre, that is until now.
Unearthly first grabbed my attention a couple of weeks ago while I was browsing the book shelfs. The cover caught my eye, with the one white feather and the long gorgeous dress. Than, my friend read it and told me that I needed to read it, so I did. The book took me a total of six hours to read. Seriously, I sat down on Sunday morning and I didn't get up until late Sunday night. Now thats what I call dedication!

Anyways, Unearthly centers around a teenage angel named Clara Gardner and her "purpose." In Clara's world every angel gets one main purpose that they need to fulfill in life. Clara's purpose, unknown for most of the book, centers around a mysterious boy in a forest fire. To fulfill her only purpose in life Clara, her angelic mother, and Clara's kind of shady younger brother, Jeffrey, move to a small town in Wyoming.  There, Clara meets the kind hearted Wendy, enthusiastic Angela, mysterious, Christian, and my favorite, the charismatic Tucker. With her odd new group of friends Clara goes out and tries to complete her purpose, which heavily involves Christian.

Unearthly is  filled with suspense, a love triangle, of course, (team Tucker by the way), heart stopping romance, and a fast pace plot that made me want go out the next day and buy the second in the series, Hallowed.

I would recommend this book to people who were fans of the Hush Hush series, the Fallen series, and other paranormal romance series. Seriously, I was pleasantly surprised by this novel and Cynthia Hand's style of writing made me become a huge fan of her work! So go buy this awesome book and I promise you won't regret it.

ENJOY --AMANDA
