From Goodreads, I get emailed a different quote from a different author each day, along with a snippet of information about said author. It's optional to have this, but I really love receiving these and finding what some of the authors we love have said. They are also quite inspirational, so if you have a Goodreads account then I definitely recommend you click 'yes' to receive them! These are my favourites so far:
30th July
These rough sketches, which are born in an instant in the heat of inspiration, express the idea of their author in a few strokes, while on the other hand too much effort and diligence sometimes saps the vitality and powers of those who never know when to leave off.
Giorgio Vasari
In his Lives of the Most Excellent Italian Painters, Sculptors, and Architects, Giorgio Vasari (born July 30, 1511) wrote artistic biographies and essentially created the first book of art history.
29th July
For sometimes you can't help but crave some ruin in what you love.
Chang-rae Lee
Happy 49th birthday, Chang-rae Lee! The Korean American novelist writes critically-acclaimed books that explore themes of alienation and identity like A Gesture Life.
26th July
The reality of what we really are is often times found in the small snips, way down at the bottom of things.
Jean Shepherd
Storyteller Jean Shepherd (born July 26, 1921) was a fixture on American radio from the 1950s to the 1970s. He is best remembered as the voice of the narrator in A Christmas Story, a classic holiday film based on his semi-autobiographical tale.
