So I recently made the decision to try my hand at this year's NaNoWriMo, which stands for National Novel Writing Month. For those of you who don't know, NaNoWriMo is an annual writing event that takes place during the month of November in which you attempt to write a first draft of your novel within the space of a month.
Daunting, I know. But sometimes you need a strict timeline like this to finally crank out the novel
you always wanted to write. I know for myself that this is the the case. I have been writing since I was 4 years old and I'm in my twenties now but it's been a struggle to actually find time and motivation to get out my first book. I always had the ideas but the idea of having to sit down at actually do the entire project was very scary. So I always did write but it never went anywhere.
Until I started coming across videos on YouTube of people who are preparing for this year's NaNoWriMo and it kind of got me excited and even really motivated to participate this time around. So I sat down at my desk and started making notes, then I started plotting and that turned into writing quotes said by actual characters in my book. Then just last night I sat down and began writing a scene, wanting to get a little head start on NaNoWriMo. I reached 1326 words before I stopped. I woke up this morning and went right back to the computer and wrote 2333 more words. I could feel a different kind of excitement building. An excitement that kinda smacked me in the face and said "hey Krystal, you might actually be able to do this !"
So I'm determined to see this thing through this year. I hope to be posting about my progress, doing video blogs about preparation and tips I have come across and stuff of that nature. I hope that by the end of November I can officially say I have finally finished my first draft.
If any one else who is reading this is also participating in NaNoWriMo, I wish you good luck. It's going to be a exhausting ride but it will be well worth it.
I'm nervous but that's why I'm trying to get some writing done now
ReplyDeleteGood luck! It definitely takes discipline and motivation to get through this event. While I'm not a writer, I've always been interested to get a feel of how it is.
ReplyDeleteAhhh! I'm also planning on doing NaNoWriMo... because I love writing but often lack motivation.. And my thought was that even if it turns out terribly, at least I've written something and can always edit the crap out of it afterwards!! Eeek! Scared but excited :D x
